The Studio
A father-son studio on the Gulf Coast
BluebearStudios is the working studio of Taylor Lowe — a self-taught figurative artist drawing in charcoal on canvas from Mobile, Alabama. The work descends from the Baroque: Caravaggio's conviction that light is a moral event, that the instant before the miracle is where the truth of a story lives.
Taylor came to art through an engineer's door. Years in civil engineering and preconstruction taught him that nothing of weight stands without structure — and that discipline now underlies every composition: values mapped like load paths, light placed with intention, nothing left to chance that should be chosen.
His son Luther — Lu — is both subject and collaborator, the namesake of an entire series and a daily presence at the easel. Osiris, the family's Tibetan Mastiff, keeps the watch. Faith is not a theme in this studio; it is the organizing center of the practice.
